People will only pay to have a problem solved if it is a frustrating matter that affects them deeply.

Magazines are designed to reach niche markets. If there is a magazine dedicated to a particular topic, you can be assured people are spending money in that niche. Magazines are brilliant to find out what you customer is asking for. Using the John example, he is looking to improve his health and is reading Men's Fitness. I googled this magazines and found out hot topics for my market include - "How to lose weight and build muscle", "How to quit smoking without gaining weight", "Diets to improve health", "How to minimise hair loss".

Secret #3 - Dummies.com gives you hot niche markets on a platter
Dummies is a company that publishes a wide range of topics as hard print books. They will not print a book unless they are going to make sales - dummies have already done the market research for you also. If your topic is in a dummies book, this is a very good sign. Dummies tells you the most popular categories and ranks articles on each category according to the most read.

Secret #4 Using keyword research to find out what your market is thinking
Once you have a potential product idea to solve your customers hurting problem, see what is being searched using the free google adwords keyword tool. If people are searching on your topic with words like relief, cure, assistance and guidance you can be sure they are looking for a solution to that problem.
