Disc Test Classifying Personality Styles

By:

A DiSC test examines the behavior of individuals in their environment or within a specific situation. It can also be termed as a quadrant behavioral model, which is based on the work of Dr. William Moulton Marston. DiSC represents:

Dominance relating to control, power and assertiveness

influence relating to optimism, influencing, and persuading

Steadiness relating to patience, persistence, and thoughtfulness

Conscientiousness relating to structure and organization

These 4 dimensions are grouped in a grid; top row contains D and i which represent the active and fast-paced aspects of personality. Then we have C and S below which represent more moderate and careful aspects of behavior. Towards the left, we have D and C which represent task-focused, questioning, and challenging aspects, then i and S towards the right represent people-focused and accepting aspects. The matrix is very simple where the top row represents a sense of feeling more powerful than their environment, while the horizontal dimension represents a sense of perceiving themselves as less powerful than their environment.

The different dimensions of a DiSC profile test are described below:

    1. Dominant Style

Dominant style people are quick when making decisions. They are task-oriented, direct, straight forward, confident and competitive. They would not like to have a lot of details and usually have a high level of initiative and energy. They will always like to be in control. These types of individuals can be very blunt and impatient. Avoiding excuses, while being direct and responsive is an appropriate approach to take with dominant style individuals.

    2. Influencing Style

This is another dimension of the DiSC profile test. The influencers are outgoing, influential, social and spontaneous. They have an entertaining style and they prefer being in an environment influenced by social interaction. When they make poor decisions, the strength of building friendship can be exploited. Instead of doing what is best for the job, influencers may postpone their decisions and may not perform at to the best of their abilities. When dealing with influencers, let them take credit and be supportive as you respond with enthusiasm.

    3. Steadiness Style

People with steadiness style are very friendly, reliable and relaxed. They focus on cooperating with others to complete a task. These people are motivated by their stability and security. When dealing with people having steadiness personality type, it is best to spend time listening to them, show personal interest and be friendly.

    4. Conscientiousness Style

The last dimension of a DiSC Test or Online Personality Test is the Conscientiousness style. These people are methodical, helpful perfectionists who have a vision and can prevent problems. They are normally very serious and logical. Their main motive is to ensure quality and accuracy in the existing environment. They tend to prefer an environment that places a high value on being accurate and safe. Having contact with a large set of people is something that a conscientiousness style individual may tend to avoid. Be factual, be prepared, and allow time for a correct decision when dealing with these people.
