Direct Response Copywriter Paul Martinez Creates The Ideal Client

Expert Direct Response Copywriter Paul Martinez speaks about Creating your Ideal Customer

In a past interview, I asked Paul Martinez a direct response copywriter, what it was like being a brand new realtor in a very competitive market before he was a copywriter. What he told me was astonishing! He took the realtor course, landed his first job and was told to go sell some houses.

Paul had no clue where to begin. He knew nothing about advertising or marketing. He began the classic way by asking his friends and family. He also cold called his life away trying to sell his first house.

He was on the fast track to failure when one day he stumbled across his first direct response marketing course. It showed him that if he didnt have a clear picture of who he was selling to then he would never sell a single house! Think about it: How can you get to 24 Prospect Street in Somerville without a map?

You could ask until you got there but that wont work with sales. By the time you ask your mothers cousins sisters friend if she wants to buy or sell a house, youll be bankrupt.

Paul smartened up lickity split and learned how to paint a very clear picture of the type of client he wanted to work with. Things like age, income, profession and lifestyle are only some of the spaces he filled in.

Once Paul was able to identify his ideal client, he could laser focus his marketing his efforts to find them and close the deals.

I mean at the end of the day, isnt that what were all trying to do?

Heres Pauls advice as an Expert Copywriter in the Boston metro area:

1: Get into your clients head first.
2: Describe you clients physical qualities: Are they tall, short, balding, fit?
3: What type of job does your client have? How much does he/she make?
4: What about how your client is feeling? Are they worried, sad, happy or lacking?
5: How can you position yourself as a remedy to their frustration points?

Are you starting to see how powerful this work can be? The simple exercise of you defining and describing your ideal client will give you a specific person to reach out to and contact. Instead of trying to reach the masses or everyone, this exercise singles out exactly who to target. It will enable you to get inside your clients head by identifying with them on a more personal basis.

What to do from here:

1: Fill out the most detailed profile possible of your ideal client.
2: Began by reaching out to them via email, phone or snail mail.
3: Position yourself as a source of relief to their frustration.
4: Wash, Rinse and Repeat.

Within a very short period of time, you will begin to notice just how quickly your ideal customer base will grow. This is one of the most powerful copywriting and marketing techniques that exist.

So what are you waiting for?

Go for it!
