By: Isabelle Lucas

In the last few years many types of electronic devices have been launched in the market and to operate these electronics devices efficiently it has to be fitted with proper cable. There are many types of cables available in the market so it is very difficult to find out which cable is the most appropriate for the device that you own. DVI is also one type of cable that is available in the market. The full form of DVI is Digital Visual Interface.

This cable was released in the market in nineteen ninety nine. These cables are used for carrying the digital uncompressed video data to the display unit. In the beginning these cables were only used for linking the computer monitor to the tower, nowadays DVI is used for the connection in your television set. If you do not have technical knowledge about DVI then you may face problem when you will go to the market to purchase DVI cables as there are three types of DVI cables.

Types of DVI Cables

The three types of DVI cables are DVI-A which is called the analog and is used for the analog television only. What is analog television? It is the television which was used in the forties when the television had been introduced and worked on the strategy that was used by motion pictures. The second type is the DVI-D which is the cable used for the device which has the digital mode of working and the third type is the DVI-I which has the facility for both digital and analog type of systems and this is the cable which is commonly used nowadays.

There is one more type of DVI which is known as DVI-DL or the DVI dual which can be used for those systems which have the facility of one more connection along with the basic connection. Before you purchase the DVI cable for your television you should go through the manual that is provided with your set as all the televisions do not use the same type of DVI for their sets.

The manual will give you clear idea whether your TV needs DVI-D or DVI-I. The same should be done when you have to purchase a cable for your computer monitor as all the companies do not recommend the use of the same type of cable. If you buy the cable without referring to the manual the DVI that you will use may adversely affect your device that is your television or the computer monitor.
