Digital Telvision - The Transition Aftermath

By:

A few weeks have passed since the government mandated switch to digital broadcasting occurred. On June 12, 2009, all full power TV stations in major city switch from one format, analog, to the other, digital. What was the purpose of this transition and how has it affected the populace?

The two main purposes for the DTV transition were to free up crowded frequencies and to improve both the audio and video quality of TV programming. Frequencies were getting too crowded and to make the airwaves more efficient, TV stations are being broadcast digitally. This gives services such as the police, fire, and emergency arrested departments more room to roam. The freedom frequencies have also been sold to companies who can offer wireless broadband services to consumers, especially since there is an increasing demand for wireless Internet and other such services.

Quite a few million households watched TV with the help of an antenna and the date of the official transition was actually moved from January 17 to June 12 because some two to three million households were not yet ready for the digital switch despite months of notices through commercials and advertisements warning them of the change. Some procrastinated while others simply not afford a digital converter box because of the tough financial period. Financial aid does come in the form of a $40 voucher and the program is focused reading these coupons on a first-come first-served basis.

Those who are using a digital converter box whether antenna have claimed one of two things. Either the picture quality has improved or this signal has gotten worse. It is important to note that digital channels are broadcast in most locations on both UHF and VHF frequencies so if you're in town only supports one time, then you will need to purchase a new UHF/VHF combination antenna. Sometimes, a new antenna could be the solution to the choppy reception, and if you aren't sure you can find a knowledgeable sales associate who has had actual experience with antennas. Your other option is to seek advice and counsel from a friend, family member, or colleague who has had previous experience installing his or her own antenna.

For the most part, however, this DTV transition has proved to be successful. Viewers are reaping the benefits of better audio and video quality and more local channel selection, and they are also enjoying the benefits of HD broadcasting. .A win win situation indeed
