Different Uses Of Chillers

By:

A lot of people rely upon functioning chillers, although probably do not recognize the name. In normal terminology, they are most likely called refrigerators or air conditioners. The truth is that they do much more than keeping meats fresh or keeping us cool in the summertime. When the units break down or fail to function properly, people's health or business profits may be some of the things at risk.

It is amazing to think of all the industries that rely upon chillers. In health care, sick people need air conditioning, for comfort and because their health and well-being demands it. For cooling an entire hospital building, very large units are needed, but hospitals also use small units for each of their MRI units. If chillers do not keep the MRI machines at the right temperatures, they begin to function slowly or stop functioning altogether. The healthcare industry cannot afford to wait for maintenance calls when people's lives are at stake.

The pharmaceutical field uses them around the clock as well. Prescription drugs have to be maintained at specific temperatures or they jeopardize the active ingredients. The end result could be deadly if chillers in a pharmaceutical plant did not function properly. Imagine if someone in heart surgery received faulty medication because the unit at the warehouse failed. From a different point of view, imagine if the warehouse with all the prescription drugs got too hot because the chillers did not work. Then all of the drugs would have to be replaced. Costs would be phenomenal, and would have to be passed on to the consumer.

Schools, offices, and apartment buildings rely upon chillers also. Many children would miss school if the temperatures in school buildings skyrocketed during June and September. Companies would lose a lot of money if their employees had to work on the thirtieth floor in the middle of a summer heat wave without air conditioning. Anyone who actually showed up for work would spend the day trying to breathe and beat the heat.

Those who work in the HVAC industry know how much our daily lives depend upon chillers. HVAC installers study the mechanics of chillers, and on top of that need to stay on call twenty-four hours a day. Maintenance calls are only one part of the business. When the units fail, it could easily be night, or a holiday, or a weekend. Because they can affect so many areas of life, HVAC workers must be ready to repair them anytime.
