Ambient and General Lighting
Ambient lighting is the overall illumination of a specific area. It radiates a comfortable level of brightness and can be accomplished with recessed, track or rail light, ceiling or wall mounted fixtures. Ideal ambient lighting is accomplished by overlapping the illumination from properly positioned fixtures arranged in a symmetrical plan.
Task Lighting
Task lighting illuminates an area for a specific task and is installed as a supplement to ambient/general lighting. Task lighting is directed at a relatively small area, such as a countertop, workshop or office work station.
Linear LED, Fluorescent, Xenon and halogen can be used in undercabinet and work station areas while MR16, PAR and BR Recessed, Track, and Nora Rail sources can spot light a defined task area.
Accent Lighting
Accent lighting introduces drama to a setting by heightening the visual experience. It is often used to focus attention on artwork, architectural details, merchandizing displays, art niches and vignettes. This technique can also be used to highlight the texture of a brick or stone wall or window treatments. It is usually accomplished
with track, rail, or adjustable recessed using reflector type sources.
Wall Washing Lighting
Wall washing is a design technique used to light vertical surfaces in order to make rooms appear more spacious,
lighter and brighter or to highlight unique surfaces.
Recessed downlights combined with wall wash or adjustable trims, Track and Rail lighting can be used to effectively cast even illumination on adjacent walls. Lamp sources include: LED , fluorescent, ceramic metal
halide and incandescent.
Wall Grazing Lighting
This technique is used to create a dramatic effect or shadows on textured surfaces, such as stone or brick walls. Recessed, Track or Rail lighting is placed close to the wall, equal distance apart and aimed downwards.
