Different Types Of Fridges & Freezers

By:

There are a various number of refrigerators and freezers on the market today. Deciding which one is the right one for you will depend on the specific reasons for which you are purchasing it. There are standard kitchen appliance types, fridge freezers, regular fridges which come without freezers, as well as chest freezers that do not have a fridge option. Below we will discuss each of them as well as where and how they might be utilized.

First of all there are the kitchen appliance variety of refrigerators and freezers. These come in a number of sizes, styles and capacities. For example, there is the top and bottom design which places the fridge portion of the appliance on the bottom and the freezer portion on the top, each with its own door. There are other designs where the placement is switched with the freezer section below the refrigerator section. These models also come in side-by-side models with one side from top to bottom is the fridge and the other side the freezer. One of the latest innovations finds the fridge above the freezer, but accessible with French style doors. This option is great when you need to store larger items like a jumbo pizza or a sheet cake.

Another model on the market today is the fridge freezer. These can also come in a variety of models and styles and are typically used for storing food in bulk. In some instances the freezer again may be separated from the fridge, but in many cases, the bulk of storage is more refrigeration and not as much freezer space.

A third variety is standard fridges. These are solely designed as refrigerators and do not have a freezer option in them. They can be smaller, like a dorm fridge or full sized for additional storage. These fridges are great for storing additional beverages and food that may not be routinely needed in the kitchen. Things which take up a lot of room, but may not be everyday meal items are great things to store in these types of fridges. In addition, most people place these in other areas of the house such as the garage, the basement or a utility room.

The last variety is the chest freezer. These are great for when you have a lot of meats or frozen foods you want to have on hand, and don't have the space in your kitchen's freezer. Also, if you or someone in your house is an outdoorsman and routinely brings home the meat from the animals they have hunted, these freezers make a great place to store them for future meals. Another thought is with people tightening their fiscal belts these days, buying a side of beef is actually much cheaper than buying individual packages of it at the store. The deterrent most people run into is storage space. Having a chest freezer eliminates that issue from the equation.

In closing, there are a number of different refrigerators and freezers on the market. Most new appliances such as the ones mentioned above are Energy Star rated, so they will not drive up your utility bills as much as their predecessors may have. If you have the space and the need, picking up one or more of these appliances may be just what you need to maximize your food storage.
