Different Types Of Advantages Associated With Thermal Printing

By:

In todays generation thermal transfer printers can be considered the most efficient machines that develop a variety of products such as bar codes, price tags and other labels. The process of thermal label printing does involve the use of heat to register and impression into paper. The printhead of the thermal printer has many resistive heating pins which melt ink into paper on contact.

As we have already discussed that these machines do produce a variety of products and out in which barcode are something that gives a machine readable representation of information in a visual format. Barcodes are basically used to implement AIDC systems or Auto ID Data Capture that improve the accuracy and speed of the computer data entry. Barcodes are commonly used in plant labels, label cartons before shipment or to label retail items with Universal Product Codes.

There are two types of thermal printing that are available in the market. They are direct thermal and thermal transfer. The thermal transfer printing utilizes a heated ribbon to print images on many different materials. But in case of direct thermal printing, no ribbon is used, and the image is printed right on the label material.

Direct thermal printing does use the heat sensitive and chemically treated media to enhance the process. Direct thermal printing is most affordable and portable because in this printing procedure there is no ink or toner is involved. One of the most important disadvantages this direct thermal printing product possesses is the possibility of fading over time which is not ideal for a lifetime product. This type of labels can be used in effectively for receipts, shipping labels and tickets.

But in case of thermal transfer printing it utilizes nothing but a thermal printhead which is pressed onto a ribbon and then it melts the ink into the label material. Later on the ink actually absorbs into the label material and is set permanently. So this is the only reason why thermal transfer printing process produces labels that have more longevity and durability.

Thermal label printing is another procedure where a thermal printhead applies heat to a ribbon. Later it melts ink into the material in the form of image. After the ink is absorbed the image becomes a part of the media. This technique does provide a high image quality and durability that is unmatched by other on-demanding printing technologies. This type of label is useful for product identification, circuit board labeling, asset tagging, inventory identification and more.
