Different Levels Of Metal Detectors

By:

It's not easy to figure out which metal detector is right for you if you never bought one before. Here you will find my own personal advice based on experience working with a few different metal detectors.

Metal Detectors for Beginners:

For somebody who wants to learn about metal detecting, or looking for an easy to use coin and jewelry detector, I would recommend looking into the Garret Ace 250 because it's an easy unit to use, uses AA batteries and doesn't drain them fast, has a good quality build, and performs great for a beginners level detector. I recommend the 250 instead of the 150 due to the better features it has and performs better, plus cost just a little more.

Metal Detectors for the Intermediate Level:

If you want to further your metal detecting, I suggest to pass by the mid-level detector and go straight for the more advanced metal detector For everyday coin and jewelry hunting, my favorite is the Minelab Explorer Series. There are plenty of dedicated metal detector users that favor different manufactures' models, but for me the explorers work very well in mineralization.

Metal Detectors for the Advanced User:

The Safari or Explorer.

Water Hunting Metal Detectors:

The only detectors usually found at the beach are Minelab Excalibur and Whites PI and are both excellent units. White's Beach Hunter gets high reviews for freshwater lakes as well. There are detector users that prefer a VLF, like the Minelab Excalibur or White's Beach Hunter for high liter area because they can distinguish trash from metal.

Metal Detectors for Beach Hunting:

Minelab Sovereign or Explorer are what I suggest. The Sovereign has the ability to use a longer cord and can chest mount the controls, which is a great perk. This give you the abilty to enter shallow water. The Sovereign and the Explorer are not fully submersible.

Metal Detectors for Nugget Hunting:

For vlf machines, the White's Goldmaster 4b or GMT are the best. They can detect small gold and are very easy to use. The Eureka is an excellent device, however it is possible to find a used Goldmaster for a lot less than a Eureka.

I hope this advice helps you choose a metal detector that you will be satisfied with. Remember to do plenty of research before hand to ensure you get the best metal detector for your needs at a great price. Happy treasure hunting.
