Different Kinds Of Lift Chairs

By:

In many instances, the task of standing and sitting is something that is done countless times throughout the day, often without much thought. However, for seniors and others who are mobility challenged, this task is not so easy. This is why many seniors turn to lift chairs when they have difficulty standing or sitting.

Lift chairs are used as a lifting aid by many seniors and look similar to a high end recliner. Modern lift chairs are, however, much easier to use than a recliner, because the chair is controlled electronically. This means that the backrest can be lowered by simply pushing a button, allowing that perfect position to be found with little trouble. This is not the only difference though, because lift chairs also contain a lifting system in the base, which causes the chair to rise slowly into the air.

The two major manufacturers of lift chairs are Golden Technologies and Pride Mobility. Both of these companies have over twenty years experience and offer a number of different lift chair models and designs. Some of these look exactly like a traditional recliner, while others take a more classic or modern approach. There are also some lift chairs that are designed to fulfill a specific need. One such lift chair is the bariatric lift chair.

Bariatric lift chairs are lift chairs designed to support more weight than a regular lift chair. They usually utilize two, or in some cases three, lifting motors and some are available that can support up to 700 pounds. The chairs frame is specially reinforced as well and are designed with a larger seat.

Another kind of specialized lift chair is the wall hugger. A wall hugger lift chair is designed to be placed close to a wall, yet still retain the ability to fully recline. A regular lift chair must usually be placed eighteen inches from the wall, although this varies by model. A wall hugger lift chair, on the other hand, can be placed as close as six inches from the wall, making it a great choice for areas of limited space.

There are also lift chairs available that feature special storage compartments, heat, and massage. These can make the lift chair much more functional, allowing magazines or remotes to be easily stored out of the way. Having a nice warm massage can also go a long way to soothing sore muscles and is very relaxing. Another popular comfort option available with some lift chairs is a removable bed pad. This pad can be placed on the lift chair when it is fully reclined, making it more comfortable for sleeping.

There are lift chairs available that fulfill different needs, so finding one to fit an individuals situation is seldom hard.
