Indian ethnic wear depicts a vast amalgamation of cultures since historically India has been exposed to many different cultural influences. These garments have carefully embraced in them the ethnicity of the land and Indian garment designs are famous all over the world. Every region in India has specific attire attached to it. For e.g. ghaghra in the state of Rajasthan, salwar kameez in the northern region etc. These outfits are not just a representation of the culture of the region but are also crafted as per the climate of the place. The origin of these ethnic dresses is not fully known, however they carry a distinctive culture in them.

Indian ethnic wear -
Saree -
The Indian Saree happens to be the most famous Indian wear across the world. The original unstitched garment is the most ancient wear we have. The saree is a long piece of cloth which if draped appropriately can conceal and accentuate effectively. Every region in India has a different style of draping the saree. This has afforded the nine yard many styles. Styles vary from draping the pallu of the saree around the shoulders in the Maharashtrian style or pulling it from behind forming the Gujarati style. Also a specific Maharashtrian style drapes the sari to form a short dhoti. With the advent of time, designers have experimented with different materials, designs as well as innovative saree draping styles.
Salwar Kameez -
Salwar kameez is very famous attire just like the saree. This is a two piece attire. The kameez forms the top and is like a long shirt. The length can vary from being knee length or lower than that. The neck line and the sleeves of the kameez can be changed as per requirement. The salwar forms the lower part of the attire. This is like a draw string baggy pant. The salwar narrows towards the heels. The gathers around the thighs can be enhanced or reduced; this depends on the style you want.Mostly the attire is accompanied with a stole known as the dupatta or chunni.
Churidar Kurta -
The churidar kurta style takes after salwar kameez. The churidar is actually the desi version of western skinny jeans. It is broad around the waist but narrows down around the heels with slight margin for leg movement. The area around the heels has many gathers to give a ruching effect. The kurta like the kameez is a long shirt that could be either knee length or lower. It is characterized with a high collar. Unlike the salwar kameez, this Indian ethnic wear may not necessarily be accompanied with a dupatta.
Ghaghara Choli
This is a typical ethnic wear from the region of Rajasthan. Again two piece attire, it is more formal than any of the other ethnicwears. The choli forms the top of the attire. This is short in size and covers up to the waist. The Ghaghara forms the bottom. It is a long A-line skirt that stretches till the ankles. The attire is embellished with traditional sequins and mirror work to give an elaborate look. The Ghaghara Choli is compulsorily accompanied with a dupatta that can be draped over the shoulders or around the head.
