Several numbers of festivals are celebrated by the rural and urban Cambodians. These celebrations attract a lot of people throughout the year. All of them gather to the capital to join in the grand celebrations. You can see lots of fireworks display at that time. As a matter of fact firework display is the usual accompaniment of these festivals. All the citizens of the country carry a excellent mood to enjoy the grandeur. Happiness can be seen in every corner. These are usually the traditional festivals influenced by the Buddhism, Hinduism and also the Royal culture. Some of the important festivals that are celebrated in Cambodia can be mentioned below.


Khmer New Years Day is celebrated in the month of April. Thai New Year is also celebrated at the same time. The whole country enjoy at this time. The calculation is completely based on the ancient Khmer calendar. The closing stage of the harvest is also marked according to this festival. The homes of the Cambodian citizen are properly decorated at this time. The main intention is to please the Heaven God. You can see many people with water pistols and small water bags which are mainly used to bless passersby. People are seen very happy at this time and you are sure to get proper welcome in the city.
Chinese New Year is usually celebrated in the month of January or February. Large numbers of Chinese are present in Cambodia and most of them are businessman. They have money and this is the reason why Chinese New Year is widely celebrated in Cambodia. In Phnom Penh you can see the actual pomp. Fireworks are widely exhibited in most of the places.


King Sihanouks birthday is celebrated on the 31st day of October. He was the influential king of Cambodia. People come to Phnom Penh and enjoy the celebrations. Sometimes the water festival and Kings birthday come at the same time and people get double reason to celebrate. People gather at the Royal Palace.


National Day is celebrated in Cambodia on 9th November. This is a recent addition in the list. The day also marks the end of the Khmer Rouge regime and starting of Vietnamese regime.


In Cambodia Royal Plowing Day is celebrated in May. Cambodia has a clear connection with the farming i.e. it has an earthy connection. The people of the country believe that Ox has one instrumental role. They also think that the ox can determine the destiny of the agricultural yield of each year. The cultural ceremony takes place in May. The ceremony is usually organized at the large park situated next to the Royal Palace. You can find the National Museum just opposite to it. King is important and he drives the Ox. Ox is given many food and beverages. It takes something and then Royal forecasters identify what the ox has taken and what does it really mean. Traditional Khmer dresses are the usual attire of Cambodian men and women at this time.
Cambodian Independence Day is celebrated on 9th November.
