Different Causes Of Bone Cancer And Its Types

By:

Nobody can say for sure what causes bone cancer and even a doctor cannot give a satisfactory explanation why some persons seem more susceptible than others to the occurrence of bone cancer. However one thing can be said with complete certainty that bone cancer is not at all contagious i.e. you cannot spread bone cancer from person to person. Various medical researches into the cause of this rare and dreaded disease have shown that some people who have certain medical conditions are in a more risk group when compared to others. The primary bone marrow cancer mostly affects children. Children and adolescents mostly suffer from osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma which occur in the growing and immature tissues. The third type of bone cancer known as chondrosarcoma occurs mostly in human adults.

# If you are a child or an adolescent you are at a greater risk of development of bone cancer. Sometimes previous history of undergoing chemotherapy or may be radiation therapy also causes bone cancer. Another factor that determines the occurrence of bone cancer is having Paget's disease in the past or a genetic pool where there is a prior history of a family member having bone cancer. Also people having hereditary retinoblastoma are at a higher risk of developing bone cancer than others.

# While it is not completely clear what leads to the occurrence of bone cancer, it generally begins in the form of an error in the DNA of the cell. As a result of this an uncontrollable cell growth occurs because of cell division. Also these newly formed cells do not die away with time and the resultant accumulation of these mutated cells gives rise to tumors. These tumors either invade other nearly placed body structures or travel to other places of body to cause havoc.

# Early diagnosis of the disease is vital for the right treatment of the bone cancer. So if your hereditary structure or previous disease history marks you more prone to the occurrence of bone cancer it is a better idea to consult your doctor at the earliest instead of sitting at home and waiting for the cancer to strike.

Bone cancer is quite a rare disease and what exactly causes bone cancer is still indeterminate. In most of the cases the point of origin of the bone cancer is somewhere else instead of the bone and as such the cancer metastasizes to bone region.
