Differences Between Long Distance And Short Distance Running

Differences Between Long Distance And Short Distance Running

One of the most favorite track and field events is running. Today even if we think to sit and write about running the first animal which comes to our mind is Cheetah. I recently watched the movie 'Duma' which is about this animal Cheetah and a small boy. The boy picks this Cheetah while travelling with this dad and names it Duma. Duma is very young when it falls in to the hands of this young boy. The boy keeps this animal, trains it to run until it becomes young and unfortunately, due to the problem in bringing up this wild animal in the society, has to go back to leave Duma to its original place where it belongs. I was seriously telling this story to my friend, and he cracked a joke, stating that the director probably did not want to make use of the ADT Home Security System that we use in our homes today. The story explains so well about Cheetah and its running ability.

Likewise the fastest bird that can run is the Ostrich. We know Ostrich is the national bird of Australia. Since Ostrich has very long and strong legs, it gives it the ability to run very fast. It is said that the Ostrich runs at a speed of 40 miles per hour. Its wings give it the ability to turn at that speed. Due to this fact in places like North America and Africa, we will find various kinds of Ostriches. Today, people conduct races riding behind an Ostrich just like we ride on a horse. This concept has become very popular in these countries. Not only this if you happen to visit North America during the month of March, then you will be able to enjoy the famous Ostrich festival that is celebrated every year during this time.

So now we know how well the concept of running is carried out all over the world. Even as we were kids from school, we would have participated in lot of running races. Some of us would have won a lot prizes as well. Today, the world's fastest runner is Usain Bolt and he is the world record holder since the year 2008. Personally I am a great fan of Usain Bolt. We all know what it means to be the world's fastest man on earth. Today, we see a lot of talented runners from the Jamaica and United States. If we look at the climatic conditions of these regions, they are either very hot or very cold. That is one of the reasons which I think; people from the cold regions have a great ability to run. It is not only because of their physical stamina, but also the practice of running in these areas is even more difficult than in any other plain regions.

However, the running concepts differ with the distances. For example, a marathon cannot be sprinted like a 100 meters. I know this could be one of the silliest or the simplest facts to state about running. The long distance running is much more complex than a short distance running. While short distance sprints also require tremendous amount of practice and techniques, it is the same case with long running as well. In fact, to run a long distance requires greater stamina and practice as well. The speed used in a long distance running is medium and varies depending on the distance. The runner has to breathe in a rhythmic manner in order to maintain energy in his body to complete the race. This requires a lot of confidence to pick up a particular speed while running and adjust his steps according to the race and this comes only with practice.
