The common myth for quite awhile was you could lose weight quick dieting with water. And while studies show that most of us don't get enough water, the effects of too much water can be fatal.

Water is the liquid of our souls .It transports nutrients and wastes throughout our bodies. It is vital in lubrication , temperature regulation and tissue structure maintenance. It is also instrumental in protecting us against a large number of medical conditions.

Research says we need 64 oz a day to be healthy. So could we drink another 64 oz a day in place of our food? Would dieting with water be effective? You can lose weight by drinking water but not from suppressing your appetite. Leslie J Bonci a registered dietitian and director of sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center said in a recent article that drinking water to keep you full is an urban legend. Bonci goes on to say you can lose weight by drinking water because if your drinking water you will not be drinking high sugar beverages. The idea is not more water and less food,but water instead of high calorie beverages.

Dieting with water can put you in the hospital or worse....It's called water intoxication [Hyponatremia]. The symptoms are much like dehydration with dizziness,confusion,and nausea. But on the inside it's diluting the salt content in your body,decreasing the amount of salt available to body tissues.This can lead to serious problems with the normal function of your muscles , heart , and brain. Water intoxication is more common when there are other health problems attributing to water retention such as cirrhosis of the liver or congestive heart failure . Recent deaths have been attributed to the over intake of water while on the drug ecstasy. Ecstasy is associated with the rave culture. It creates a feeling of deeper intimacy with other people and decrease feelings of anxiety and fear. Your body is working overtime on this drug and the consumption of liquid is extremely higher than normal. Up to three gallons in recent deaths. There have also been cases of marathon runners and bicyclist dieing from this as well. When it comes to dieting with water the risks out way the benefit.

So when your researching for your diet pick a healthy one with a balance of good food and exercise. This will get you farther than dieting with water.
