Dieting has always been difficult for most individuals. Exercising also is considered a very complicated, time consuming and just plain hard way to lose weight. Unfortunately, many overweight people are drawn to "easy" fad diet or weight loss programs which can be highly effective in the short term, without lasting results. If the person trying to lose weight is prone to emotional eating or comfort eating, chances are, lasting dietary changes will be very difficult or even impossible to commit to.

That is why a lot of health professionals have created different approaches to losing weight and weight management. Although they are aware that there is no perfect formula to weight loss, they are still on the lookout for different combinations, approaches, and options that may be helpful to most individuals.

In their quest for this, they are convinced that the most basic element needed to having a successful weight loss management programs is healthy eating. Foremost, a balanced healthy diet is necessary to establish a healthy relationship with food. If this can be established, issues such as emotional eating and lack of exercise can then be tackled.

Knowing the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that your body needs daily is the first step to achieving a happier and slimmer you. The best diet is not giving up on eating, but being mindful of the food that is consumed. Adding fruits and vegetables to your daily diet does not necessarily mean eating less delicious food. The only thing hindering you in eating healthy yet delicious food is your creativity.

A helpful rule coined by experts is that, "if it's not brown; put it down," referring to the more healthful benefits of wholegrain compared to refined white grain. Wholegrain in pasta, bread, and rice contain more fiber which not only provides a healthier option, but also keeps you feeling fuller for longer.

For a leaner you, eat more lean protein which you can get from chicken, turkey, or lean cuts of beef. Low fat dairy products such as skimmed milk and yoghurt also contain some of the essential vitamins and minerals that the body needs.

Cut down on the amount of calories consumed from liquids. This means drinking water instead of juices or sodas.
For emotional and comfort eaters, it is important for them to consult food counselors and therapists to identify the root cause of their situation. To combat their eating disorder they need to first identify the root of their eating habits which may be attributed to boredom, stress, grief, or others.

Exercise should still be a part of the daily regimen. Being active while eating healthily will almost always produce successful weight loss. But remember, it is always advisable to consult with your health professional before embarking on changes to your diet or undertaking strenuous exercise to make sure that you are proceeding at a safe and sensible rate.
