Diet Programs Eating Fat To Lose Weight

By:

One component of many effective diet programs is fat content. Contrary to popular belief we need a considerable amount of fat in our diet for basic bodily functions and in order to keep lean. The key thing is to eat good fats. Good fats are typically of the omega 3 variety while bad fats are often characterized as trans-fats.

Bodily Function:
The body uses good fats for a whole host of functions from a healthy immune system, hormone production, and a healthy metabolism. Good fats dont necessarily burn fat but they do tell the body not to store it. That way as you do the other things necessary to stay lean (exercise, eat a nutritious diet) you will take the weight off and keep it off. Good fats also affect hormone production in a positive way. You should understand that the various hormones in our body have an effect on how our bodies store excess weight. For example, a high stress lifestyle increases the amount of cortisol in your system which tends to have people store fat, particularly around their belly.

Good fats actually affect hormones which tell the body to suppress your degree of hunger. So eating omega 3 compounds has the added benefit of reducing the temptation to eat poorly.

Which Ones Should I Choose:
If you go back far enough before the era of modern food production, many of ailments that plague todays society were not so prevalent; heart disease and obesity (which ultimately leads to type 2 diabetes). The root cause of these problems can be traced to the highly processed foods that we consume.

Unprocessed foods are the best place to look for healthy sources of fat:

Organic, grass-fed-cows dairy products (Cream, Butter, Milk)
Virgin or Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Fish Oil
Avocado
Coconut Oil
Peanuts and Macadamia Nuts (among other nuts)

Making a Change Today:
A couple of good habits you can start immediately even before you start researching good diet programs are the following:

Cook with olive oil or coconut oil instead of other oils
Use organic butter instead of margarine
Take a teaspoon of fish oil every morning before breakfast

Along with lean proteins, unprocessed carbs, and a high amount of fibre, good fats are key to a well-rounded nutritious diet. You dont need to deny yourself when eating a healthy diet; you just need to choose wisely. Eat well my friends!
