Did You Know Bad Weather Outside Can Cause Damage Inside?

By:

In winter, we have more accidents on our roads because of the ice and snow that settle on them, and then you might have high winds that will send this snow blowing, causing your vision of what is ahead of you to become almost impossible to see through. When our weather becomes this bad, our city officials will have no choice in shutting down these roads until the bad weather stops. Sometimes these roads can be closed for days and if you happen to be on these roads when the regulations are set in place, you should not try to move your car off the road - just leave it. They will tell you when it's safe to retrieve your car later.

With all of the bad weather outside, you don't need to have any damages coming up inside your home. As we have to keep the house warm, sometimes you will find yourself having to use space heaters to keep the whole house warm. With using these heaters, the likelihood of have a fire start increases with the use of these heaters as we sometimes forget that they are still on because they don't have to be running to still be warm enough to burn whatever is thrown on top of them. If you have small children, they are really good at doing this very thing.

In weather like this if you have a fireplace, you might want to use it to help heat your home especially if your lights go out because of this storm. If this happens, you might want to leave the home and go to a motel if they have lights or find someone that does if you have no other way to keep warm. You will need to do whatever you can so that you do stay warm. Put blankets over openings that don't have doors on them or just close them so to keep as much heat in one room as possible. If you have fireplaces, put your whole family in this one room and keep plenty of blankets on hand to help you keep your body temperature up.

When this situation happens, there can be a lot of people ending up in the hospital because of their body temperature dropping down so low that they could freeze to death. You might want to have several layers of clothes on plus your coat, a cap on your head, and even gloves on your hands. When the electricity does come back on and the heat gets back to normal, you can then start taking off all of these extra clothes.
