Development Of Marina's In India.

By:

It is a fact of nature that both Goa and Kochin offer superb cruising waters, much better than Mumbai. The question everyone is asking is, where should India first real marina be built? Though Mumbai is the current nucleus of boating in India, Goa is developing at a quick pace and should be explored for marina developments. As the number of boats begin to go up in the Mumbai Harbor, yacht owners are on the lookout for alternate locations to park their luxury yachts. Some of these yacht owners are the wealthy from the interiors of India and with thier new found status they are indulging in new lifestyle trends in recreation. They seem fascinated by the sea and their first preference for a beach holiday is none other than Goa! Of course they frequent Mumbai for business but having a yacht in Goa makes more sense as Indians are family oriented and a family vacation is almost an annual tradition. Many even have their holiday homes in Goa. Theres no better way to spend quality time with friends & family than on an delightful sailboat or a luxury yacht.

Eng Simon Arrol - Marina Consultant, remarks, Full service marinas and boatyards are indispensable to develop boating. It provides the base for all the activities and businesses, and a hub for community interaction. The importance of the yaching sector in terms of job creation, recreation and tourism cannot be underestimated- one can see many examples of this around the world. Yachting is a healthy, non-polluting, and economically constructive activity. The whole point of a marina is that it provides protected berthing 365 days a year. It may well be unsafe to go out boating for the duration of the monsoon but the fundamental point is that the yachts remain protected inside a marina. Marinas are the infrastructure of the yachting industry, providing a safe and expedient place to keep and maintain your boat.

To keep this fabulous trend of yachting alive the main role of Government ought to be to facilitate marina development. The innumerable travelers who stopover in Goa every year are familiar with sailing as it is a popular sport enjoyed all over the world. The rising number of yachts has also given rise to charters of luxury yachts. Indians are becoming curious by the day and their knowledge & interest in boating is definitely seen to be growing. If the Government understands how critical yachting could be for its tourism sector, Goa can become the boating destination of India.
