Developing Water Efficient Landscaping Designs Part Ii

By:

In order to develop water efficient landscaping designs we need to take account of several basic things. We have already discussed the important of proper planning and design as well as soil analysis and treatment. Further important aspects of water efficient landscaping designs are described below:

Plant Selection Suitable to Climate and Soil Along with local climate and soil type you also need to think about the selection of plants for your landscaping designs. If there are already some trees in landscaping area then try not to cut them. Because existing trees are a great help in protecting soil erosion. For plantation purposes, its better if your select native plants, because native plans are already adapted to climatic conditions and you do not have to care much for them. Another important thing is to choose those plants that release less humidity in air. Because plants that releases more humidity needs more water to keep their required level of water intact. The time of plantation is also important. Every plant cannot start growing if planted during inappropriate timing. The best timing for plantation is usually spring season.

Water Efficient Irrigation Irrigation of plants and landscaped area is very important because during normal irrigation process a large portion of water is either wasted or not absorbed by the plants. The actual goal of efficient irrigation is to reduce loss of water in evaporation or in runoff. It is possible by applying only as much water as needed by the plants to survive.

Appropriate Maintenance Appropriate maintenance of landscaping is important but only as and when needed. Unwanted maintenance can reduce the beauty of landscaping or result loss of valuable resources like water, plants or fertilizers. Always remember that water efficient landscaping needs less water and fertilizers than usual landscaping designs. Cutting of grass, plants, shrubs and flowers planted in your landscaped garden is also important. It's better if you make a proper maintenance plan once after your landscaping garden becomes mature and stable. Always notice the growth of grass on landscaping, cutting of grass is very important on appropriate timing, because excess growth will need more water to maintain greenery of grass or turf.
