As 2008 is nearly gone and economies are sliding. This might be the time to remove the power bill from your life. Allow us to discuss two things. Sustainable energy like wind and solar would be a great first step. That means that you should use the advantages of mother nature. Off the top of my head, I would suggest wind power and/or solar energy. The Renewable Energy is an easy and cheap substitute to power which is not only costly but also limited in supply. Hence this alternative source obtained from solar or wind power, is properly made use of, you can save a lot of your hard earned money.

1. In the summer when temperatures are warmer, try closing curtains and blinds strategically to bring the temperature in the house down. The application of window film may also be benefical. This will lower the amount of reflective heat while not blocking your view to the outdoors. Installing window shades and painting the house with light colors will help keep the house cooler inside.

2. Users should try and locate all window air conditioning units on the shady side of their home and position it in a window near the center of the house. If it's cool outside it will be cool inside.

3. Be certain that the system you use for cooling (also heat production during the winter) is functioning properly. At least once yearly you should have your systems checked by a reputable maintenance company. It is important to change the filters on your furnace and your air conditioner once a month.

4. We you go away from home turn the furnace or air off. If you live in a really cold place or a warmer than usual climate you would want to turn your thermostat up or down to meet your needs.

5. In order to cool your home in the summer, one may put some thought into planting some trees for shade. Make sure to regularly trim shrubs that are in close proximity to air conditioning units; this will help the air conditioning units maintain proper airflow.

6. Electronic equipment may continue to use electricity when left plugged in even if it is turned off. To help prevent accidental fires, unplug all heat producing appliances, when leaving your home.

Unplug appliances that may cause a fire when leaving home on vacation. plug electrical units into a power strip that can be switch off when your are not using them, for example razors or hair dryers.

7. You should put flourescent light bulbs in all of your lamps instead of the less efficient incandescent bulbs. Incandescent bulbs use ten times more power than fluorescent.

8. It is good practice to look for printers, scanners, and other office equipment that have the feature of automatically going into "sleep mode" or turning themselves off when they are not in use.

9. When choosing between cooking your meal in the microwave or on the electric stove, the microwave will be your best power saving option. It will take 90 percent less energy and will not make the house very warm, but causing one to use more electricity to cool it off.

10. Any appliance that is over ten years old should be interchanged with a new one Newer appliances are more energy-efficient and cost-effective than older appliances. Each of the newest appliances, which cost ten to twenty percent less to use, must meet the criteria of being "Energy Star" efficient .

11. During a power outage unplug or turn off as many electronic devices as possible. Or else, a transformer would possibly explode when all of the electricity is restored at the same time.

12. People think that creating renewable energy is hard, but when you think about it, it's easier then you would think. Take with you the URL or website seeing.

By utilizing a few of these measures, you can help lower how much you pay for electricity. For every idea you apply, your savings will increase. Not only will conserving electricity save you money, but it can help save the environment as well.
