It is fair to say that in our busy lives, the majority of us have wardrobes that are overflowing with clothes that we do not actually wear. The number of clothes stuffed into your wardrobe is not proportional to how stylish you look. A very good rule of thumb is; if you havent worn it for over a year then the charity bag is the best place for it.

It can be hard to make stylish choices when our wardrobes are crammed full of clothes we dont really wear. It is easy to go for the same old choices every day.

Firstly, rework your classics. Spend an afternoon trying on items, try on your classic pieces such as tailored trousers or jackets. These can be paired up with this seasons tops or jeans.

Clothes that are ill fitting are useless. They will make you feel uncomfortable and are not great at flattering your figure. It is pointless keeping older items that do not fit anymore, put them into the charity bag and be ruthless. If you have made purchases in the past and find that, every time you wear them youre not confident, and then get rid of them.

Once you have finalised which items you are keeping, the next step is to start a shopping list. Note down any gaps in your wardrobe; key pieces are the items you require. Easy to wear separates should mix easily into any wardrobe. You should consider spending more money on well fitted jeans and trousers as well as jackets. Shoes are also an important consideration; choose styles that are easy to pair up with most items in your wardrobe. If your key pieces are in place then you can team them up with this seasons tops and accessories.

Now give your refreshed wardrobe some order, hang everything in separate sections dresses with dresses and so on then sort each item by colour. Knitwear should be folded not hung; this is to prevent it from stretching. Trousers should be hung upside from clip hangers to prevent creases. Wire hangers ruin clothes; invest in some decent wooden alternatives. Jeans are best when folded and stacked. Organise any bags and accessories in a number of different storage boxes, this will make them easier to look through and choose from. Shoes should also be neatly stacked and easy to find; you could keep them in boxes or use a shoe hanger within your wardrobe.

Finally, it is a good idea to invest in a hand-held steamer; small steamers can be ready to go in seconds and are far kinder on your clothes.
