Detecting And Removing Mold

By:

If you are a homeowner, then you know it can be a very big hassle to keep your house or apartment thoroughly clean. You can scrub dishes and mop floors all day and night, but you still smell a sour smell somewhere, and you are not even sure if you want to know what it is. After all, you are tired enough as it is, right?

Well, that smell you are ignoring may be the indicator of a much bigger problem: mold. And while you may think that mold is just a common, easily fixed problem, you may be surprised to learn just how seriously mold can affect your home, and the health of those living in it. Mold is a problem that should be taken care of sooner rather than later, when it can become a serious problem. We will focus on the kitchen and the laundry room first.

The first thing you need to do is detect the odd odor you smelled earlier. Let's say it was in the kitchen, under the sink where you usually keep your cleaning supplies and chemicals. Well, the location of the chemicals is very convenient for you. You may want to clear out everything from the bottom of the sink to see just how extensive the mold growth is, though. After observing how much mold is in your sink, depending on how bad the infestation is, you can proceed to remove it with a chemical cleaning agent designed specifically for mold. You should also be sure that your pipes are not leaking, as this could be a source of your moldy predicament. Mold is attracted to moisture and heat, and that is exactly the profile your kitchen sink has.

The next area of concern is your laundry room. If you have had any clothes get soaked in water that you have failed to tend to in the past couple of days, you may have invited mold to have a party on your favorite shirt.

You should immediately wash the clothes, as opposed to letting them sit, as you may forget them and let the mold come swarming to the clothes. After you have washed the clothes a first, time, inspect them for mold, and if there still appears to be light molding, then give them a second washing. If this does not work, then you may want to simply replace them.
