Detailed Painting Estimates From Florida Painters

By:

Moving to a new home already requires a lot of work and it is made even more complicated when re-painting is needed. This requires a detailed calculation by Florida painters on the amount of paint to be used for the walls, ceiling, doors, windows of every room and every corner, here includes both the indoor and outdoor layout of the house.

A software is used by other residential painters to do the estimation on the amount of paint needed, it can also estimate the labor cost and the number of days to finish the job. But, the fact of the matter is, expert residential painters are still needed for the data input, before the calculation can be made. That means that the most correct estimate still needs to be custom-made for a specific job order.

Commercial painting contractors include many things for a painting job, so if there is a wrong notion that it is just about the paint, it has to be corrected. Florida painters usually include the following in their calculation: amount of paint, the labor fees and the current pricing system in the market. This is something that varies for each residential painter because they have differences in productivity rate, overhead expenses and expected profit margins.

So to have an idea on the amount of paint alone, here is a quick guide from Florida painters on how to calculate the gallons of paint needed for the complete repaint of the house.

Measure the total width of the entire wall around the house then multiply it with the measurement in height using the height of the floor up to the ceiling. This will give the estimate of the whole area in square feet.

Now from the square footage determine the entire area to be painted or the paintable surface area. If different colors will be used for some areas like the doors and windows, subtract the measurement of these parts from the total area computation. Commercial painting contractors as a standard ruling subtract 20 square feet for each door and 15 square feet for every standard-sized window.

Generally, residential painters use this approximation in the amount of paint, 1 gallon for every 350 square feet of wall area. Other considerations include: adding a little over one gallon for unpainted wall because they tend to absorb more paint; if additional coating is preferred then more gallons are required and if unfinished walls or previous dark-colored painted walls are to be repainted, then at least two coating is to be done. A better option to this would be, to choose a color that is closest to the old one as recommended by Florida painters.

Now finally, to get the number of gallons of paint, divide the total paintable area by 350 square feet; this will give the number of gallons needed. This is in consideration of the previous estimates that deducted the paint for walls and windows. Then you can add extra gallons considering the additional recommendations from Florida painters regarding the condition of the wall area to be painted. Rounding off can be done in cases of uneven numbers using the rule of 5. Meaning if the remainder is lower than .5 one or two cans in quarts can be added. But, if the remainder is more than .5 it is advisable to get an extra gallon of paint. An additional pointer in case several colors will be used for different rooms is to use mixed paints for some rooms, this is why color matches also matter.
