Drug addiction is considered a pathological state. Drug addiction is the obsessive dependence on a legal or illegal drug. Drugs can include prescription medications, illegal drugs, and alcohol. Certain drugs are more likely to cause physical dependence than are others. Using more of the substance than necessary to experience the intoxicating effects; and experiencing tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, and decreased motivation for normal life activities. Cannabis compounds are found in marijuana and hashish. Signs and symptoms of use and dependence on these drugs include heightened sense of visual, auditory and taste perception ,Poor memory ,Increased blood pressure and heart rate ,Red eyes ,Decreased coordination ,Difficulty concentrating ,Increased appetite and Paranoid thinking.

Drug addiction has two components: physical dependency, and psychological dependency. Physical dependency occurs when a drug has been used habitually and the body has become accustomed to its effects. Psychological dependency occurs when a drug has been used habitually and the mind has become emotionally reliant on its effects, either to elicit pleasure or relieve pain, and does not feel capable of functioning without it. Drugs such as codeine or alcohol, for example, typically need many more danger to addict their users than drugs such as heroin or cocaine. The most common drug addictions are to legal substances such as alcohol ,Nicotine in the form of tobacco, particularly cigarettes and caffeine in the form of pills, tea, coffee, and caffeinated sodas.

Various factors, such as your personality, your genetic makeup and gaze pressure, affect your likelihood of becoming compulsive to a drug. In addition, some drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, more quickly produce a physical addiction than other drugs do for many people. Physical addiction appears to occur when repeated use of a drug alters reward pathways in your brain. The addicting drug causes physical changes to some nerve cells (neurons) in your brain. Glutamate, Dopamine, and Serotonin have long been associated with highly dependent addictions. Drug addiction treatment typically involves steps to help you withdraw from using the drug
The goal of withdrawal therapy (detoxification) is stop taking the addicting drug as quickly and safely as possible.
