Shop in Dubai

Dubai is truly shoppers paradise! From quaint little souqs (markets) to huge, ultra-modern shopping malls, and everything in between, visitors to Dubai will be absolutely spoilt for choice! Shopping in Dubai can occupy your time almost 24 hours a day (with most modern malls open from 10am - 10pm and some until midnight at weekends).

Dubai souqs
You can soak up some history meandering through traditional souqs in Dubai, searching for souvenirs, ornate fabrics, local spices or gold jewellery - the sheer quantity and designs of which will amaze you.

A modern version of the traditional Arabian 'souq' - and a must see while in Dubai - was built next to the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel on the Jumeirah Beach Road. A visit to 'Madinat Souk' allows you to browse typical market stalls and bazaar-type shops in 5-star style - a perfect Dubai shopping venue for souvenirs to take back home.

Dubai Shopping Malls
For a cooler experience (particularly in the hotter months), there is nothing you will not find in the super modern shopping malls of Dubai - from world famous designer labels to local and regional brands. The most popular mall in 2007 is Mall of the Emirates with its impressive snow ski slope - visible from the shopping centre through large glass windows. Due to open in 2008 is The Dubai Mall, part of the famous Burj Dubai project - soon to be the largest building in the world.

Cinema

For the most part, we enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbusters in Dubai . Although they premiere here a little bit later than in the US or UK , the time lag doesnt seem to be too bad. Bollywood movies in Dubai are quite popular, with an average of two new movies a week. You may be able to catch some movies in other languages such as Malayam, Telegu, and Tamil, but they are not shown as often. Surprisingly, there are very few Arabic movies in the cinema. Only one or two showings a week and they are usually at least six months old.

The cinemas in Dubai are of top quality. They are clean and comfortable and of course air conditioned. Sometimes it even gets too chilly, so dont forget bring a jacket. Theres also a wide range of snacks and drinks available.

For something more exciting, catch an IMAX movie at Grand Cinemas, Ibn Battuta Mall. Nothing beats a movie in 3Dunless you are in Dubai . To top that, the CineStar at Mall of the Emirates features a special luxurious cinema called Gold Class. With extra-comfortable, fully-reclining chairs, in a private and luxurious setting, its a 5 star movie experience.
