Destination Costa Blanca

By:

The Costa Blanca is around a 200 kilometre stretch of coastline in the South East area of Spain. A very popular and well known part of this coastline is Alicante. The area receives, on average, 300 days of sunshine a year. The climate is very pleasant without the wet winters as received on the Costa Brava but feeling less humid than the Costa Del Sol. The area has a large English population both permanent and tourists.

The Costa Blanca has some highly developed areas as a great deal of the east and southern coastline in Spain. In recent years, a cap has been put on some of the areas to stop any further development and there are still some small fishing villages that have retained their original features such as the pretty Villajoyosa. The opposite being Benidorm which has its infamous high rise apartment blocks and the high number of UK tourists and residents.

The North and South of the Costa Blanca are quite different and attract different tourists. The North is more mountainous and you will find excellent Costa Blanca villas to rent surrounded by these mountains. The mountains are some of the largest in Spain and edge right to the coast enhancing the dramatic scenery. Denia is a town that should be visited whilst in the area with the Montgo Mountain and its ancient castle. This is a very historical part of the Costa Blanca and as such, has wealth of monuments and places of historical interest. This stretch of Mediterranean coast has a large sailing history and Valencia is now the home of the Americas Cup. Luxury motor yachts and boats can be hired from Denia. Yachts from Denia Marina can be taken down to areas such as Altea which is a great place to visit but also across to the Balearic Islands of Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

Further down to the Costa Blanca South along has 50 kilometres of coastline and as with most of the Spanish coastline, has numerous blue flag awarded beaches for their safety and cleanliness. As well as the beaches there are a number of hidden coves which are worth exploring should you wish to get off the beaten track and luxury Costa Blanca apartments.

The Costa Blanca is served excellently by Alicante, Valencia and Murcia airports so you are never more than a 45 minute drive from either of them. It is now even easier to travel to the Costa Blanca with many of the budget airlines scheduling flights from both the major UK airports but also the smaller one such as Blackpool. Flight times are just 2 hours. The giant A7 Motorway begins in Barcelona and runs right down the coast to Algeciras in the south and serves and the major coastal areas.

The Costa Blanca has far more heritage and places of interest than most people think. This isnt surprising due to the press seeming to always focus on locations such as Benidorm. The area has a history of over 3000 years making it an excellent destination whether it is the historical areas that interest you or the bars and nightlife of Alicante and Benidorm.
