Designing The Most Functional Hot Tub Deck

By:

Hot tubs are gaining popularity even in small homes. Deck for hot tubs can be built on a slightly larger than average sized lawn.

A hot tub is a perfect addition to your backyard, coupled with functionality and aesthetics. It sets the atmosphere for socialization. Designing and planning where exactly the perfect location for the hot tub deck can create a pleasurable environment for relaxation.

The average empty hot tub weighs from 700 to 800 pounds. When filled with water it weighs 3,700 pounds. It may even weigh up to a staggering 14,000 lbs. Make certain that the deck can hold the weight of the tub even with water and people in it. Strengthen the deck frames by adding Dek-Block piers equally to the support board.

Focus on three things in designing a hot tub deck: positioning, the structural support, and a room for other furniture that will modify the inside and outside appearance of the hot tub deck.

Deck design should match the tubs design or the trim of the house. Consider functionality. Some hot tub decks are designed just to access the tub, and require simpler designs.

A good design for people who often use the hot tub should provide enough space or area for tables, benches or chairs. A large tub with a big room for peoples bathing things is ideal. Install tables, chairs and a railing.

Choose material that will complement the hot tub and house exterior. Rich wood such as oak and cedar are good choices. They beautifully blend and enhance the style of any dcor.

Deck screen gives privacy to the person using the tub. It can act as a shelter from the heat of the sun, or keep a person away from the watchful eyes of neighbors. Curtains, plants or slat materials can give more privacy.

Deck waterproofing prolongs the life of a wooden deck. Clean the deck before applying waterproofing.

Install soft lighting in the tub area to create a relaxing ambience.

Self-contained Hot Tub
This type of hot tub is built above the ground. The electrical installation, filtration and heating system are housed in the tubs exterior or cabinet. It is convenient to move this around.

Non-self-contained Hot Tub
This type of hot tub is permanent and installed a few feet underground. Its electrical wirings along with the heating system are installed away from the hot tub. Such tubs are best with a concrete deck.

A hot tub can be built indoors or outdoors similarly with its deck. Outdoor hot tubs need to be strengthened by a slab of concrete. Indoor hot tubs require enough ventilation. Other factors to focus on include installation requirements such as electrical circuits, plumbing, and gas line.
