There are many reasons that you might design a custom military ring. Most people who design and purchase the rings are active duty military troops. I dont wear much jewelry but I did choose to design my own personal military ring to keep as an heirloom. I seldom wear it but each time that I do I am always reminded of the time that I spent in the service of my country. They were hard years but they were the best years of my life. My ring brings back so many memories that it is just not possible to talk about them all.
My ring brings back memories of the time when I lay in the pouring rain and mud for hours to ambush a passing unit while suffering from a rash that itched so bad that I thought it would drive me insane. It also brings back memories of when I got a pay stub for -$14.00 because I had to get an advance to buy uniforms. I ate fish sticks and noodles for two weeks until I got paid again. I have never eaten another fish stick since then.
I also remember the time that a buddy of mine gave me his last three dollars because I needed it and he didnt have to use them right then. It also reminds me of all of the friends that I have regained contact with in the last few years that I havent seen in many years. Talking to them on the phone was wonderful and I know that if I needed any kind of help today they would be glad to do all that they can to help me.
My military ring brings back all the memories of the field exercises which were really tough, the 140 degree heat of Saudi Arabia in the dog days of summer. It also brings back the memories of the dust storms and flies of that region. It also brings back memories of trying to eat a hot meal in the swamps of Southern Georgia. The gnats on my corn and mashed potatoes looked like sprinkles.
I remember being almost paralyzed with fear, so tired that I couldnt stand up, so sleepy that I passed out on my feet, and so angry that I thought that I would explode. I remember the good leaders, those who only served their own self interests and the politicians.
I couldnt place all of these feelings on an heirloom ring but when I look into the eyes of my grandchildren I want them to have some sort of idea of what I went through for their sakes and the sakes of the people of the greatest nation in the world. There is no way that they will ever perceive the total reality of the sacrifices made but when I am gone I want my custom military ring to be an everlasting legacy of love. They know that I love them but I want to give them a visible memory of who I was and what I was all about and I know of no better way to do so other than creating a custom military heirloom ring.
My ring is 14kt carat gold but it could just as easily be another metal. I only wear it when I get a special urge. I dont have to display it publicly every day but I know its there whether I wear it or not the same way that you know in your heart what you gave to the service of your country and to the livelihood of the ones that you love.
