When thinking of designing your dress, some would think that it is hard and you need to know things about tailoring and designing. However, designing a dress is simply expressing yourself. It is a good way to express yourself in something that is visible. It is the same as drawing on a piece of paper. If you do not know how to start your design you can use old patterns and change some details or add some details you want.

Below are 6 easy steps to design your own dress:

Step 1: Conduct a Research
Check an old pattern from magazine, catalog and internet. You may find pattern that matches how you want your dress to look like or make some small revisions.

Step 2: Make a Rough Draft
Make a draft on a piece of paper. If you want, you can make plenty of designs and choose from these designs.

Step 3: Length
Decide on the length of the skirt, if you want a cocktail dress or above the knee skirt. If you want a formal dress, make your skirt level to your ankle.

Step 4: Decide on the Fit
Choose on the fit of the skirt. You may want your skirt loose, fit or flowing. You may also choose to have slits, multi layered fabrics and other unique styles.

Step 5: Decide on the Sleeve Style
There are different types of sleeves such as off shoulder, spaghetti straps, cap sleeves, ball sleeves, or any sleeves that you think will match your design.

Step 6: Decide on the Neckline
A neckline of a dress can be low cut, scooped, mandarin or turtleneck, square neck or v-neck. Design also the back of your dress.

Step 7: Finalize the Details
After deciding on the fit, sleeves, neckline and length, finalize it all on a clean paper.

Step 8: Decide on the Fabric and Color
The deciding factor of the dress whether it is good or not is the fabric used. By deciding on the fabric use, make sure it fits your design and can capture how you want your dress will look like. When choosing the color of the fabric, make sure it matches the color of your skin.
