By:

You have made the decision that you want to remodel your bathroom, but you have a small space, so you are interested in maximizing the space as much as possible. At the same time you want to make sure that your hard work in remodeling also adds to the look and feel of the room. You are in the right place, read on for a few ideas on ways to maximize your floor space, storage space, and make the room feel larger than it actually is.

- Consider installing a pocket door. This will eliminate the need for door clearance, which is typically a 30" wide arc.
- If your budget includes a new shower, install frameless shower doors. A pivot hinge will minimize the shower door swing, eliminating the need for a large amount swing clearance.
- If possible eliminate the space taken by a linen closet by using wall hanging cabinets or a set of built in shelves.
- Partition walls are generally something found in older homes. They are space wasters that come from a design period where it was the style was to break up rooms into smaller areas. If present, eliminate them.
- If your space has fur downs, eliminate them. This may not offer a large amount of usable space, but it is a trick to give a feeling of openness.
- Choose a wall mounted vanity, (also referred to as floating vanities) or vanities with tall legs. These have open space under the cabinet which will create a more open feel. There are many small vanities in the market today, some as small as 18" wide.
- If you can't find a small vanity that suites your needs, you could have a custom vanity made. Custom cabinets will cost more than a pre-packaged vanity, but it can also be a very unique piece and you can be sure that it will fit your project.
-Other vanity options that will maximize space include wall mounted vessel sinks or a corner vanity cabinet. These are a great use of space and they also add a sleek designer look.
- Use cool paint colors, such as a neutral, white, or pastel to give the illusion of a more open space. Then add more color to your project with accessories, such as towels and hardware.
- Use recessed can lighting that is positioned in relationship to the vanity mirror to brighten the room.
- Mirrors can also add the illusion of space.
- Finally, do your best to eliminate all clutter. An organized, simple look makes any room appear larger and more open.
