Design Effective Trade Show Displays

By:

Designing effective (i.e. "get the job done") trade show displays isnt rocket science and it doesn't require a "left brain" creative genius. Its a simple matter of common sense. But unfortunately, simple common sense doesnt mean it is "simple" or "common" to find effective trade show displays at most trade shows. From what I've seen, I have to wonder what some trade show exhibitors where thinking when they came up with their designs. But by reading this article and following these basic steps, you'll know how to create and design an unique and effective trade show display that will drawing prospects walking by booth into your booth, where you can convert them into customers (and isn't that the reason you're at the trade show to begin with?) If you create a design that does the following three things, it will do its job and be effective.

First, your display has catch people's attention when they are passing by your booth space. Think of your trade show booth as a needle in a haystack. You've got to differentiate your booth from all the other booths at the show. You won't get much booth traffic if people just ignore your booth and walk on by. A big, bold, "in your face" background picture will almost always take care of this first step.

Second, your display design should make clear who you are and also what it is that you do. Use big letters for your company name and put it at the top. You must also explain what your company actually does. Ask a friend or colleague to quickly glance at your design and then ask them who you are and what you do.

Third, you need to clearly state "what's in it for me" for your potential prospect. This is a critical part of having an effective design. People are interested in how you can help them - that is why they will stop and talk. For instance, if you are a financial services company, tell them how much money you can make them. Your design, not matter what, must include how you can help or benefit your customer.

In summary, designing effective trade show displays means having a crystal clear message that accomplishes the three steps above. Your design has to get noticed and stand out from the other designs. Your design must include your company name and what your company does. And most critically, your design must state how you help or benefit customers. You can easily improve your trade show marketing efforts by just creating a trade show display design that does these three simple things. Make your next trade show your most successful trade show yet!
