Depression And Insomnia; The Things You Should Know

There are many things you should know about depression and insomnia. Insomnia is in the sleep disorder classification. Insomnia is when a person has trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or waking up too early. This sleep disorder is one of the most commonly reported. This disorder can be found in approximately 30% of adults. Women and older people are usually the ones affected by insomnia the most.

Depression will change the way you think, and feel. Your body may even suffer from this illness. You will probably have trouble with your sleeping and eating habits. Depression is not the same thing as having a bad mood or being down. Depression is a life altering disorder that will affect your health if it is not treated by a professional.

If you have a depression disorder then you will probably suffer with insomnia as well. Insomnia can be brought on by depression but it can also start before the depression and continue well after. Insomnia can be found in approximately 80% of depression suffers. Depression is not the only thing that brings on insomnia, there are several things that can start it.

Some of the contributing factors on insomnia are poor sleep habits, stress, and anxiety. You should avoid alcohol and drugs too. Some medications have been known to bring on insomnia also. If you sleep in a quite, dark, comfortable room then you are less likely to have an onset of insomnia.

Psychologist can treat your depression and or insomnia better than a regular doctor. You can have your disorders diagnosed and treated by a licensed counselor. You should always remember to be honest with your therapist. They can not help you if you do not share your thoughts and feelings with them. Do not mislead your doctors in any way or they may diagnose or treat you wrong.

Counseling can be very beneficial when dealing with depression and insomnia. Your psychologist can help you to identify the source of your depression. Depression can sometimes be caused by insomnia, and sometimes it is the other way around. Your medical doctor will be able to run tests to rule out any imbalances or other conditions which may affect you physically.

Medication can be the best treatment for depression and insomnia. Usually after talking with your psychologist you will be prescribe a medication that will help. You may prefer to not take medication which is fine. But you should try something else, even if it is herbs or supplements. Depression and insomnia are both very treatable. You can end this vicious cycle once and for all.
