Depression - Types and Treatments of Depression

Depression affects teenagers, pensioners and everyone in between; married people, single people, rich and poor. Clinical depression affects 15% of the population, and a third of all women. Depression can be caused by other people's behavior, by the environment and deceptions, tragic events and irrecoverable losses. It's not a sign of craziness; on the contrary, it's a sign of sensitivity, while the crazy individual cannot feel anything. There are many symptoms associated with depression and not everyone will experience the same ones nor with the same degree of intensity.

Types of Depression

Psychotic depression: It is a severe form of depression in which the individual may have hallucinations and hear and see things, which are actually not there. Seasonal affective disorder: This is a general type of depression which is associated with seasons. It is automatically after the passage of a particular season. For example in winter season the day gets shorter and due to which he feels more fatigue. But this is automatically treated when winter season passes away.

Situational depression is just how it sounds, depression based on what is going on in your life. Have you just lost your job? Did your girlfriend just break up with you? It's common to be depressed after these events. While therapy would be beneficial here, medication most likely would not. Are you depressed for no reason? If you have trouble getting out of bed on a daily basis, or you feel down and don't enjoy things that you used to with more frequency, then you might suffer from clinical depression. Clinical depression is caused by changes in brain chemistry and can be treated with medication.

Major depression, and bipolar depression are the types of depression often contrasted. People suffering from Bipolar Depression may themselves not realize they are depressed because of their frequent switches from extreme sadness and lassitude to extreme happiness and an overabundance of energy. There are no such fluctuations in Unipolar Depression; its most obvious symptom is the sufferer's continuing sadness and lethargy.

Treatments of Depression

Cardamom and asparagus are two natural foods that are used in depression treatment. Other foods known to be beneficial in the treatment of depression include lemon balm, cashew nut and rose petals. It is also recommended that drinking a lot of water - at least eight glasses a day - and cutting down on (or preferably cutting out) red meats can support the treatment of depression. "Cooling foods," such as many citrus fruits and most vegetables, are also thought to be useful in the treatment of depression because they bring down acidity levels in the body and so keep the mind calm.

Depression treatment can help you in many different ways: the most important benefit of depression treatment is its ability to reduce the intensity of pain and suffering. However, you may need to seek qualified treatment as early as possible to get the full benefit of depression treatment. Previous successful results have shown that people who are undergoing acute bouts of depression are cured permanently with sustained treatment. Most of the people who are treated for depression usually feel better within weeks after depression treatment. However, it is also advisable to continue depression treatment till the patient is completely cured.
