Depressed? Self-help Kits Work Wonders While Antidepressants Do More Bad Than Good

By:

Do you find yourself feeling too sad much the time? Maybe you're clinically depressed. If so, what kind of help should you seek?

Your first reaction is probably to run to the doctor. And his first response will likely be to prescribe antidepressants. After all, US doctors wrote 189 million prescriptions for antidepressants in just one year.

But here's the really depressing news: Antidepressants don't work and they can have terrible side-effects. The side-effects are impossible to deny because drug companies must list them on the packaging to protect you and any other consumers who may take them.

Some patients do benefit from them. However, drug makers still try to dupe us into thinking that they actually work for everyone. In fact, a new study - published in the New England Journal of Medicine - shows that drug makers only publish their studies that demonstrate drug benefits but don't publish the ones which don't show benefits.

As a practicing psychotherapist, this is frightening to me because depression is among America's most common health problems and some even suggest that it may soon be the second leading cause of disability in this country. After all, if drug makers only publish their positive results, consumers' view of them will be warped.

This would lead patients to think that they work for everyone when actually, for most people, they may be no better than a placebo. This deceptive practice has fueled the use of psychiatric drugs to the extent that they are now the second leading class of drugs sold.

Antidepressants Are Huge Money-Makers for Pharmaceutical Houses

Depression means big profits for shareholders. After all, women have up to a 25 percent risk of suffering severe depression and men have up to a 12 percent risk.

Antidepressant medications gush money for pharmaceutical manufacturers and their shareholders. The use of these drugs has tripled in the last 10 years and spending on them soared by 130 percent in one year alone. By 2008, the Americans were spending no less than $12 billion on them each year.

The study in the New England Journal of Medicine cited above shows that these drugs are often no more effective than a placebo. In fact, because of the potential for terrible side effects, they can be very harmful.

Because antidepressants may be popular doesn't mean they're helpful. Unfortunately, as we now see from the research, they often don't work and have the potential for deleterious side effects which makes the patient's quality of life even worse.

Studies show that antidepressant medications may:

...Trigger a potentially life-threatening irregular heartbeat.

...Cause abnormal retention of a patient's urine.

...Cause the patient's mouth to go dry.

...Be disabling.

...Increase a patient's suicide risk.

...Result in a numbing of the patient's emotions.

In fact, eighty-six percent of patients taking antidepressants report having one or more side effects. These include sexual dysfunction, fatigue, insomnia, loss of mental abilities, nausea, and weight gain.

The New-Generation Self-Therapy Kits (STKs) Can Make your Depressive Symptoms Virtually Disappear-WITHOUT Side-Effects

Self-therapy kits (STKs) are compact self-help powerhouses that pack a powerful therapeutic punch. There are many of them and they may contain any of the following: CDs, DVDs, MP3s, e-books, workbooks, audios, videos etc.

They are used in the privacy of your home and they are self-paced. It's like having your own therapist available to you 24/7.

They use state-of-the-art information, visualization, behavioral exercises and easy monitoring of feelings and progress to make your symptoms disappear-once and for all. There are no side-effects, prescriptions or doctor visit hassles with which to contend.

It's best to start them before seeking counseling because, after all, they may eliminate your symptoms completely. However, if you're in counseling now, using them simultaneously could dramatically shorten the time required for your symptoms to disappear.

Using an STK while engaging in treatment will likely boost both the speed and quality of your recovery several times over!

How do you find these powerful self-therapy kits (STKs)? Just go to the internet and search for "self-help" "self-improvement," "anxiety, depression self-help" etc.
