The district of Deoghar lies in the North-Eastern Part of the state of Jharkhand in Santhal Pargana. Deoghar is famous as the cultural capital of Jharkhand. This place has served as the source of inspiration for literary excellence, profound philosophers, thinkers, poets and artists. The earlier history found that Deoghar was ruled by the last Gupta Emperor Adityasena Gupta, in the 8th century A.D. The Baidyanath dham temple has been famous since then. In early 18th century Maharaja of Gidhaur lost the region from Nawab of Birbhum, which was later recaptured by Maharaja of Gidhaur. In1857, British became the ruler of the region after defeating Nawab of Sirajudaula. After independence of India it became a part of free country.Every year in the mouth of Shravan, the famous Shravani Mela is held at Deoghar. The pilgrims carry the holy water of Ganga from Sultanganjs Ganga ghat of Bhagalpur district and travel in the inaccessible 110 km. Long way bare footed carrying the Kanwar which holds the water of Ganga to the Babadham, Deoghar and offer the same to the Devadideva Mahadeva. It is a very prominent destination of Hindu Pilgrimage perfectly placed at the backdrop of scenic surroundings. Deoghar town is regarded as one of the calmest and unexplored city in the state. The aesthetic ambiance provides eternal feelings to mind and body. Deoghar had a population of 98,372. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Deoghar has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82% and, female literacy is 69%. In Deoghar, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. The most important seasonal fairs held at Deoghar are on the occasion of Shivratri, Shravana Sombari and Shri Panchami. Among other important fairs and meals are-Gopastmi mela, Dussehra mela, Makar Sankranti mela, Newan mela and Durga Puja.

Naulakha Mandir: It is situated 1.5 km away from Baba Baidyanath Temple. It is a nice visiting spot. This temple looks like the temple of Ramakrishna in Belur. Inside it there are idols of Radha - Krishna. Its height is 146 feet. The amount spent in construction of the temple was about Rs. 900,000 (9 lakhs). Hence it became known as Naulakha Temple.
Satsanga Ashram: This Ashram is a holy place for the devotees of sri sri Anukul Chandra Thakur. Thousands of devotees gather at this place during the month of Kartik (A Hindu month).
Harilajori: Its a Shiva temple situated in the northern direction of Deoghar at a distance of 5 km. There is an old Shivalinga in this temple and according to local legends it has been sprung up from beneath a yellow myrobalan tree for which this linga is also named as Haritakinath.
Trikut: 16 km from Deogarh on Dumka Road lies the picturesque hill dotted with various caves and waterfalls. Pilgrims, while returning from Baidyanath temple to Vasukinath temple, prefer to halt at his hill adorned with various temples.
Nandan Pahar: The beauty of the hill lies in the cluster of temples dedicated to various gods. Atop the hill there is a tank where people often flock for picnics.
