Denver Kitchen Remodeling Faq

Here you will find many of the most commonly asked questions that I hear as I help my customers prepare for a kitchen remodel.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF CUSTOM KITCHEN CABINETS?

There is no particle board anywhere in our cabinets. We use no fillers when installing the kitchen. We do not have any stock, pre-built sizes. There is no center support like cheaply built cabinets (called the center stile). We don't have a showroom, a savings to you. We bring the showroom to you, along with hundreds pictures of Denver kitchen remodeling projects we have installed over the years.

We pay no freight to ship the cabinets, a savings to you. We use no packaging material, a savings to you. If somehow a cabinet is damaged we can rebuild it in a day. You won't need to wait 4 weeks for a replacement cabinet. All cabinets can be any height, depth, or width. We use only the best materials, therefore we rarely have a warranty call.

WHAT IS MY KITCHEN REMODEL GOING TO COST?

The answer really depends on the scope of work. For example, how many other things are involved in the kitchen remodel. In a minor kitchen remodel it is pretty typical to consider updating the kitchen with new kitchen cabinets, sink and faucet, countertops, backsplash, lighting, and new paint and texture.

A major kitchen remodel might include new appliances, new kitchen floor, new ceiling can lights, as well as under-cabinet or in-cabinet lighting.

Other popular enhancements include opening up walls to the dining room or living room or putting in a gas line and new vent hood. And maybe it is time to consider putting in a new kitchen window. We will provide you with a line item quote for each individual task so you can determine an accurate budget.

HOW MUCH ARE MY NEW KITCHEN CABINETS GOING TO COST?

The number one driver on kitchen remodel cost is how much the cabinets will cost. Cabinet cost primarily depends upon the size of your kitchen and type of wood used. From lowest to most expensive, the standard woods are Oak, Alder, Maple, Hickory, Cherry, and Black Walnut.

Next is the type of stain, or paint, or glaze. It is very standard for each of these treatments to be an additional charge.

Finally the style of the cabinet door affects the price of the cabinets. Simply stated, Good, Better, and Best are typical categories for pricing kitchen cabinets.

DO I GET MY KITCHEN TILED BEFORE OR AFTER I HAVE MY NEW KITCHEN CABINETS PUT IN?

It is best to tile before the new kitchen goes in:
1) If you decide to move a unit and put an appliance in at a later date, it will slide in on an even floor and be level
2) The cuts up to the wall where units are going to be could be 1 or 2 mm shorter and grouted so they'll still look ok which is much quicker than cutting around units.
3) Neater finish to the units.
4) Means you can change the feet on the units and have no plinths.
5) Also consider removing skirting boards and replace after tiling. Neater finish still and you don't often have a great deal of skirting in a kitchen.
6) When the units have been installed, tile the walls and then cut and fit the cornice and pelmets.
7) Consider placing the tiles on the floor in a diagonal pattern. If the kitchen is not square, the kitchen units won't run with the tiles and the grout line will show if the units are not parallel.

WHAT IS THE KITCHEN WORK TRIANGLE?

The "work triangle" is the kitchen area from the refrigerator to the main cooking area to the main sink is a critical consideration when designing a kitchen. Connect the three and it should form a triangle (unless you have a 'one-wall' kitchen). It's important because at or immediately adjacent to the triangle's points, all the key kitchen activities - food preparation, cooking and clean up - take place. The work triangle helps to ensure that your kitchen will be functional. It keeps cooking activities centered in one area, with all the necessities close at hand.
