Dentist Reviews: What To Look For

By:

Dentist reviews are all over the internet, giving potential patients like yourself the opportunity to compare and contrast using the experiences of others as your guide. It is a wonderful tool and is certainly a step up from the dark ages of relying on advertisements and the phone book to find quality dental care. Still, after reading a few opinions, you might find yourself on information overload. Five people say this guy is great, while another five say he should be ridden out of town on a rail. Who to believe? Here are some tips to take with you as you read through the ratings.

Find dentist reviews that are full of detail. Simply giving a thumbs up or down to a particular dental care provider works for us in this ADHD world, but what are you really getting out of it? You know friends who have drastically different tastes than you, so why would you blindly trust a complete stranger?

This is why movie critics perform a valuable service, even if many average citizens dismiss them out of hand. It isn't because of star ratings, it's because of the details they give. And while coming from a subjective point of view, a savvy reader can pick out those details and determine for themselves whether or not they may like a particular film. The same holds true here. Judge what you're reading by the content as much as the writer's point of view.

They say that the wisdom of crowds will always steer you in the right direction. However, this phenomenon only works when you actually have a crowd. If you see dentist reviews for a particular office, and there are only three or four writers, you can summarily dismiss the opinions as a whole. You don't know these people and you don't know what their motives are. Until a dentist has at least ten or fifteen opinions, the crowd consensus isn't going to mean a whole lot. On the other hand, that detail will still be there in the good write-ups, providing you with the information you need to make a choice.

Above all else, look at what people are saying about the dentist's demeanor and bedside manner. This is as important in dentistry as it is in any other field of health care. Even more so if you're looking for someone you can take your kids to. Everyone recognizes a friendly demeanor when they see it, so these testimonials will be the clearest and most trustworthy. Find someone who is friendly, and you'll have won half the battle.
