Dental Implants: Advantages Over Dentures

By:

Dentures can be embarrassing sometimes. They can be loose when you're smiling or eating and sometimes even fall out from your mouth. Many denture wearers admit it is not easy to smile confidently. Being able to smile confidently with beautiful teeth is great for anyone's self-esteem. With advances in dentistry today, the field of dentistry has come up with dental implants which is a much better option than dentures.

Dentures have been used for many years now to replace missing or diseased teeth. Because dentures could be messy, sticky and bothersome, dentists have developed a great alternative to dentures. This innovative option is called dental implants or teeth implants. Unlike dentures, dental implants are permanent; the great thing about this alternative is that you will no longer feel anxious about possible problems when you are eating or talking. You can also laugh and drink normally without always thinking about what could happen to your dentures. In terms of convenience and comfort, teeth implants are indeed so much better.

Not only are dental implants permanent, they are more hygienic than dentures and look like the teeth you were born with. Like anything else, teeth implants have a disadvantage. Expect dental implants to cost more than the usual dentures, but you will find out that paying extra cost is worth the security of having all your teeth stay in your mouth when you eat, and not worrying about having to remove your false teeth at night when you sleep or put them in a container to clean them. Dental implants can be cleaned like any regular teeth!

There are two steps involved when dental implants are placed in the mouth. The first step is putting a prosthetic post that will serve as an anchor on your jawbone. The post slightly sticks out from the gums so that it will hold the prosthetic tooth. The second step is putting the prosthetic tooth on the post. The prosthetic tooth looks natural and replicates the real tooth. A dental implant is made from composite resin. The prosthetic tooth plus the post will look and function just like a real tooth. Once the teeth implants have been placed in the gums, a slight soreness and numbness will be felt briefly. This should not be a problem; your cosmetic dentist will advise you to eat food that is softer or easier to chew to prevent irritation of the gums with the newly placed teeth implants.

When the implantation site is already healed, you can eat almost any food without worrying about causing any problems for the dental implants. Proper and regular checkups with your dentist is advisable. Dental implants can last for many years, but can also wear and move in position through time. The post that was initially placed will not need any replacement unless the bone density changes as you age.

In summary, as a solution to missing teeth, dental implants are more convenient to use, more attractive and longer lasting than dentures. Your local cosmetic dentist or implant dentist can advise you on whether dental implants are right for you.
