Dental Care For Seniors - Teeth Implants, Bridges And Dentures

Many seniors today wear false teeth of one sort or another. Some seniors did not take proper care of their teeth that resulted in them losing their teeth, but this is not always the case. Even with proper senior dental care, many seniors who are taking medication for various purposes find that they are experiencing tooth loss. Dental care for seniors often involves some type of teeth replacement, although there are many from which to choose, depending on the condition of the gums as well as the amount of tooth loss.

Some senior dental care will involve the placement of a bridge. A bridge is a small portion of false teeth that is attached to the existing teeth. Rather than have a full set of dentures, a bridge is used when only a few teeth in the mouth are bad, but need to be replaced for chewing as well as cosmetic reasons. Most dental care for seniors involves trying to salvage as much of their teeth as possible. A bridge is one way senior dental care can work to provide a senior with false teeth without having to have a full set.

Dentures are common among many seniors and are a very common form of senior dental care. Dentures are false teeth for the top and bottom that are affixed in the mouth with a special adhesive. For these false teeth, senior dental care involves that they take them out of the mouth and clean them nightly.

Dental care for seniors with regard to false teeth can also mean permanent teeth replacement, although this is not possible for everyone. Dental implants are often used as a form of false teeth and unlike dentures, are permanent in the mouth. The consist of screws that are affixed to the gums and then covered with a cap. These false teeth can be part of senior dental care if the senior has good gums.

Senior dental care should still involve brushing the teeth regularly and also seeing the dentist on a regular basis so that seniors can keep their teeth for as long as they can. With proper dental care for seniors, many seniors are finding that they are keeping their own teeth and not needing to resort to false teeth in their golden years.
