Dental Care For Canadians

By:

The Canadian health care system is renowned and envied all over the world; Canadians know that if they fall ill, they will get the medical treatment that they need. Unfortunately, this level of care does not extend to dental care. The only way to get dental coverage is if the person's company that they work for covers it; and this often does not include more involved dentistry such as root canals or oral surgery. Usually, coverage includes basic necessities such as fillings, cleanings and x-rays.

Of course, the amount of money that you spend in a Canadian dental clinic will depend on the level of dental work that you need done. Fillings are less expensive than crowns, for example, and root canals can cost over $1000.00. Children and senior citizens pay less for dental care in Canada than those between the ages of 19 and 64.

Of course ignoring a problem altogether will tend to cost you more in the long run. If the condition gets worse, it will cost more to fix it. It may also cause you even more pain and discomfort than if you had just dealt with the problem in the first place.

The province of Ontario has a program known as CINOT that covers children under the age of 13 for dental care and treatment. There are certain criteria that must be met, however. Other provinces have similar programs.

Dental technicians offer free screening for students across Canadian schools to check for problems such as tooth decay, cavities and any other conditions that may exist and require treatment. A note is sent home to the parent and must be followed up in a reasonable amount of time.

If you do not currently have a dental plan, you can talk to your Canadian dental clinic and ask if you can pay your bill in instalments; many dentists now offer payment plans and financing if you are not covered for treatment.

Finding a Canadian dental clinic is a cinch, thanks to the internet. A quick search will get you some local area dentists and dental care clinics. Call and visit with two or three and find one that you are most comfortable with. Family and friends may also be able to recommend a dental professional. Many dentists are aware of people's fear, and have made their offices and environments much more soothing and calming so you can have a better overall experience.
