Calculations by ReThink recruitment has indicated that demand for IT professionals within the retail sector has leapt by +46% over the last 6 months. ReThink recruitment are a business and technology staffing company.
ReThink have said that the increase in IT recruitment in the retail sector is due to retailers investigating in or replacing their core e-commerce systems and upgrading their supply chain management systems to stream line their business.
ReThink have recognized that IT professionals with experience of multi channel and e-commerce IT platforms are now in high demand and businesses are offering them buy back offers of between 15% to 20% increase of their current pay. ReThink have established that contract project managers and business analysts working in the retail sector can now command on average a daily pay rate of 500 to 450 compared to 450 to 400 pounds from sixth months ago, and some Subject Matter Specialists in fact demanding even more.
It is expected that by 2014, 37 million consumers will be buying online compared with 27 million in 2010. With 5% of businesses who dont currently have e-commerce systems implementing them in the next 4 years.
Iain Blair, Director at ReThink, commented "competition among retailers is leading to a shortage in the supply of candidates with key skills. Counter-offers of up to 20% were virtually unheard of this time last year. There has been a huge increase in demand for IT professionals skilled in e-commerce and multi-channel retail platforms."
