Delivering Temperature Sensitive Shipments

By:

When a fulfillment company is transporting something which is sensitive to temperature, they have to take a lot more effort in order to ensure a successful delivery. Everything from the packing, to the equipment used, to the handling procedures are going to be different in order to make sure that nothing goes wrong and that no damage is sustained by the cargo. This is why not all companies get involved in this kind of shipping, because of all the extra work and equipment that is required. You may need to find a speciality courier if you need to ship material which is temperature sensitive.

This is especially true if you're shipping anything which is going to be classified as medical or pharmaceutical material. That is because in addition to being temperature sensitive couriers are required to have extra credentials and permits in order to transport those kinds of goods. This is because of their legal classifications as certain types of hazardous materials.

It is also so important that extra care is taken when transporting medial material and pharmaceuticals because of the very nature of those types of goods. There are literally lives that can depend on those types of shipments being made successfully. If they were to be exposed to heat or become stored at the wrong temperatures, they can easily become damaged and spoil completely. Therefore, it is essential that above all when transporting medical material that a courier has the ability to maintain it at the temperature which is recommended for its storage.

The exact temperature that is needed is going to differ depending on what kinds of goods are actually being transported. The storage and transport units these types of couriers use give them the ability to specifically set the temperature for each type of goods, because for example, whole blood may need to be transported at a different temperature than certain types of tissue samples.

There are other steps which are taken to ensure the temperature of those types of goods beyond simply transporting them in cooled trailers. They are also packed in highly insulated containers to reduce the shift in temperature due to being exposed to air when being loaded and unloaded from the delivery vehicles. Steps are also taken to ensure that the amount of time that any cargo is in transit between the vehicle and an interior storage facility is as little as possible.
