Deciding Whether Or Not To Attend To College

Deciding to attend college is a big commitment. Some high school students may wonder if college is for them. Some adults may be wondering if going to college as a non-traditional student is a good idea. As a college student, I would recommend that anyone seriously considering college give it a try.

When you were in high school, did you know what you wanted to do? Did you know for sure if it could be done with or without a college degree? For many of us who may not have known what we wanted to do, college was a good starting point.

While it is true that most people can find some sort of work without a college degree, in the long-run, those without college degrees will have far less advancement opportunities and make less money. A college degree is a credential that you can take to any employer.

Experiencing college brings additional advantages beyond earning more money. College students have opportunities to interact with each other, to learn social behavior and sometimes even build leadership skills.

Many people are concerned about their livelihood in the current economy. A college degree can make job candidates more competitive, not only for the academic credentials, but because employers often place more trust in those who have earned a college degree.

Presenting a credential as prestigious as a college degree speaks volumes to employers. Employers realize the hard work that goes into obtaining a college degree and they do not overlook it. A college degree shows that you know you are worth a good career and you have taken the proper steps to earn a foot in the door.

In many cases, without a college degree, you would not even meet the minimum criteria for most white-collar jobs. Perhaps you could work in fast food restaurants or even in retail centers, but unless you are sure that these are your life-long goals, a degree is a wise investment.

While it is difficult and challenging, college is definitely worth it, and you'll thank yourself later for putting in the effort now!
