Sydney's outlying regions are dotted with inviting beaches and National Parks. This is the places to enjoy vineyards, rolling hills and amazing waterfalls. Blue Mountain National Park is about an hour and a half from the Sydney city limits but is well worth the drive. In this location you will get to see one of the regions very first rail lines as well as some little mountain villages. Take a bushwalk, an eco tour, and enjoy some of the dramatic scenery of Blackheath and Katoomba. The Blue Mountains offer a peaceful retreat from the city as well as the opportunity to learn a little more about Aboriginal culture.

No list of favorites would be complete without including the Illawarra Coast, close to an hour away from Sydney. Here fishing villages make for great tours and you will also get to see some amazing beaches. Victoria is another such area, which is about another hour of traveling. This region is known and loved for its dairy farms, green pastures and rolling hills.

Day four or six, depending on how long you spent at the previous faves, is a great day to visit Kangaroo Valley. It is the middle dot on the map between Southern Highlands and the South Coast. Located outside of the city limits of Sydney it is also a wildlife preserve with natural habitats for the native wildlife, who call the small farms and cobblestone cottages home.

To the North of Sydney is the incredible Central Coast. This region is one that is filled with beautiful lakes, National Parks, and beaches. Natural beauty abounds throughout this region and this is a great place to spend some time just taking part in the water sports and fishing expeditions. Many Sydney residents spend their down time on the Central Coast. Sydney is a beautiful city but a trip to Sydney should not only encompass the spectacular sounds and excitement of the bustling city streets. A trip to Sydney should at least include a visit to one of the outlying areas as well where you can truly appreciate the unique pulse of this region.
