Debunking The Myths About Hair Care

By:

When it comes to beauty, hair care, and skincare, we have all heard (and possibly practiced) our fair share of myths about how to deal with troubles and achieve the results we crave. But it can be difficult to tell which tales are legitimate leads and which are complete bunk. So let me help you out in that department by undermining some of the major myths about hair care.

First: A personal pet peeve of mine is the supposed link between trimming hair and hair growth. Even some stylists claim that a regular cut can boost the rate of growth, but because new length comes from the roots (as those of us who dye our hair can attest), hacking at the ends doesn't have much effect.

However, since every type of tresses is susceptible to breakage, a regular visit to the salon is still a good idea. This is particularly true if you frequently use heat styling methods, even if you regularly use a heat protector. If you have curly or wavy hair, you have an even greater risk of sustaining severe split ends and breakage, neither of which are attractive on anyone.

Second: The more your shampoo lathers, the deeper it is cleaning. The high lather of a typical shampoo found in an aisle of the grocery store can actually strip your hair of moisture and vital nutrients, so talk to your stylist to find a shampoo that will clear away product buildup and excess oil without damaging your hair.

For the curly-haired folks out there, I highly recommend selecting a shampoo that does not lather at all, as this will leave more of the scalp's natural oils to nourish the especially dry strands.

Third: Home remedies are just as effective as salon treatments. All up and down the internet, you can find recipes for deep conditioners made from eggs (or mayonnaise), avocados, and/or olive oil, among other items that you can find in your pantry.

While the principle behind using these ingredients is a good one, as eggs contain proteins essential to healthy hair, and oils from avocado and other sources can replenish lost moisture. But it can be difficult for your locks to absorb these nutrients without the right chemical help from the proper balance attained in carefully formulated salon products.

So mosey on over to your favorite salon to have a discussion with a qualified professional. They will be able to recommend a hair care regimen that will address your specific concerns. If you want to conquer the troubles that can hold back the appearance of healthy hair, then you need to be willing to make the investment necessary to get the quality your hair deserves.
