Death, Taxes And The Dentist?

By:

Nobody wants to go the dentist but like death and taxes, a visit to the dentist is inevitable but unlike death and taxes, it doesn't have to be painful. In fact with proper dental care most of your dental visits should be nothing more than preventative measures to ensure your good overall oral health.

You should have your teeth professionally cleaned once or twice a year since this is also a good way for the hygienist to spot any problems that should come to the attention of the dentist for follow up care. And in between those cleaning visits you should be just as zealous cleaning your own teeth as the hygienist. Brush, floss and use fluoride or mouth wash to make sure you are getting your mouth completely clean every day.

Most tooth decay can be prevented with the proper care of your mouth and that starts with you. However, no matter how zealous you may be about your teeth, you may end up with a cavity at some point or another in your life and that is where your dentist comes in.

Other than preventative care and restorative care such as fixing broken teeth or repairing tooth decay, you can also see your dentist for cosmetic reasons such as teeth whitening, or putting on caps or veneers to make your smile nicer.

When you are looking for a doctor you can start by getting referrals from friends or family members who are happy with their doctor. Compile a list of potential doctors and start the elimination process with the basics. You should ideally find a doctor that is located in a geographic location that is easy to get to for you either from work or from home depending on which location you think you will be coming from the majority of times. You can whittle that list of prospective doctor down even more by looking at their office hours to ensure they are compatible with your schedule. Finally call the doctor and talk to the person who does the scheduling. How far out are most appointments? It's not unusual for a new patient to have a long wait to get in for an established and busy practice. It may be worth your while to try a new doctor who doesn't have the cliental built up who can get you for appointments on a faster basis.
If you have insurance, make sure your new doctor will accept it. If you're flying uninsured ask about cash discounts for paying your bill upfront. If you plan to use your credit card, make sure the doctor will accept your card and make sure you have room on your card.

If you do your research you should be able to find a great doctor that you love and if you take proper care of your teeth you should avoid being able to see the good doctor for a very long time to come, which will give you more time to do your taxes.
