Dear Friend Hitler, the first Indian film about Hitler will see the light of the day as it premieres at Cannes Film Festival's March du Film on 11th May 2011. The film will have a second screening on 16th May at the festival. The first look of the film was unveiled at the 61st Film Festival, earlier this year. The film is produced by Dr. Anil Sharma and directed by Rakesh Ranjan Kumar, which also happens to be the duos debut venture.

Dear Friend Hitler is the untold story of Hitler in his last few days that he spent in his bunker. The film will deal with the situation that enveloped the leader when his downfall was certain and the myriad of emotions and dilemmas faced by him. The film has Indian actors Raghubir Yadav and Neha Dhupia play Hitler and Eva Braun respectively. It is the first Indian film about the German dictator and also the first film to be dubbed in seventeen different languages.

Dear Friend Hitler was showcased at the 61st Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. The title of the film is a reference of the phrase that Gandhiji used to address Hitler in two of his letters, in which he requested Hitler to digress from his path to prevent the Second World War. The film merely points out the difference in ideologies of two leaders, Hitler and Mahatma Gandhi and how Hitlers radical methods lead to his end, while Gandhiji freed India from the British Raj through non violence. Dr. Anil Sharma, the films producer clarifies that "There is no appraisal or reverence of Hitler's character in the movie. After unveiling the first look of this film on Adolf Hitler at the Berlin Film Festival it's clear that the film doesn't glorify Hitler, but scrutinize him against Gandhi's ideology of peace."

The film generated much interest and anticipation amongst audiences, who were curious to see an Indian actor (Raghubir Yadav) play the role of the German leader after the first glimpse of the film at Berlinale. Dr Anil Sharma, further added, When we took the out-takes of the film to the Berlin Film Festival, the audience was excited at the prospect of seeing a Bollywood actor play the part of Hitler. There was curiosity about it. If Ben Kingsley, who was British, continues to be the face of Gandhi in cinema, there is no reason why the audience will not be able to accept Raghuvir Yadav as the German dictator, here or in Germany.
