Dealing With Adversity

Dealing With Adversity

By:

Many people believe that you really can see a persons personality when he or she is faced with hardships,You may think you know a person all of your life but won't really see their true colors until you see them under difficult circumstances.

When was the last time you had to worry about your family's safety? Life is a series of challenges that no human being can avoidI wouldn't be surprised if you had to cope with several inconveniences already today. We are all guilty of becoming engulfed in our own inconsequential problems that in reality aren't a big deal. Now although we can't avoid these inconveniences altogether, there are ways to go about minimizing the affect that they have on you and your mood. If one day, on your way to work, someone carelessly cuts you off, don't become enraged and let that person ruin your entire day. Instead, be grateful that you and that other individual are okay and that you both avoided a serious accident.

If you happen to miss your plane flight because you got stuck in traffic after that person cut you off, don't become angry and continue cursing at that person, but realize that you weren't meant to be on that flight. If you miss your job interview because you missed your initial flight, realize that a better opportunity will come along. A door only close so another one can be opened.

In Zig Ziglars book Top Performance he displays two different theorys that he calls responding vs. reacting. This theory can be applied to a fairly significant issue such as not getting a job that you had applied for. you could respond to this event in two different way, the first would be reacting. someone who reacts to this event would stop applying for jobs and succumb to the negativity. They wouldn't think of how to fix this problem but just consider themselves an unfortunate individual.

They would also naturally try to put the blame on someone or something else. however, a person who responds to this negative news is a person who is going to get up the next morning ready for the day and start right away looking for another job. The difference between the two types of people is evident within this Chinese proverb "better to light a candle than to curse the darkness". a person who cursed the darkness would be a reactor and a person who lights the candle would be the responder.

So next time your faced with harsh adversity, prove to the ones around you that you're going to lead them from their intricacy, prove to them that you're the light at the end of the tunnel, prove to them that you're a responder and not a reactor.
